When there’s the potential for a collision, the front seat belts tense up to put you in the best spot for airbag protection. If your car starts to slip, side windows and the sunroof are also automatically closed. (Optional on V6TDI and standard on V8TDI).

Using sensors, a flashing symbol on each of your side mirrors will inform you if there’s a vehicle in your blind spot. (Optional on V6TDI and standard on V8TDI).

This state-of-the-art system applies the brakes to prevent or mitigate a secondary impact during a collision. If an initial collision has been detected by the airbag sensors, the vehicle is automatically slowed so that a secondary impact will be lessended or avoided.
The Touareg has nine airbags. Front airbags for the driver and passenger, complemented by side airbags for the front and rear. Full length curtain airbags provide head protection for both the front and rear. While an additional airbag protects the driver's knees.
The cruise control system with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) lets you set the speed you want to travel and the gap you want to allow between you and the car in front. Using a radar sensor, the car then maintains your speed and your distance. In doing so it makes life easier for the driver, particularly on long journeys, and reduces the risk of exceeding the speed limit.

Lane Assist reduces the likelihood of your vehicle veering off the road or accidentally crossing into another lane, warning the driver via steering wheel vibrations.

Using a radar sensor, Front Assist detects when the vehicle in front is too close. It will warn you and prepare the car for braking. If nothing changes, it partially applies the brakes giving you a better chance of avoiding or minimising a collision. When you’re travelling below 30km/h, City Emergency Brake will prepare the brakes if a collision is likely. If the driver doesn’t brake, the system will do it automatically.
